Minecraft on PS4 Supports Touchpad, will be Followed

Minecraft will not complete a bridge to PS4, Vita and Xbox One until August, but the PlayStation Blog update lends a few more details about what we can expect from the port to Sony's latest home console.

We've been told before that the world's sizes would be "a lot larger" on consoles that are more modern. However, this update provides more details that the PS4 will offer 36 times more space for construction sites on the flagship than the PS3. It's possible to think of the DualShock 4's touchpad as an additional tool in your arsenal also, as 4J Studios is implementing optional support for its use in crafting or menu navigation.

The PS4 version will offer eight-player online play, with a single PS4 capable of hosting up to four players via splitscreen. "A number of DLC for Sony" will follow Minecraft's PS4 debut.

Saves can be transferred from the PS3 or Xbox 360 to allow you to keep developing your architectural skills without having to start from scratch. When the PS4 and Xbox One builds arrive in August you'll be able to upgrade from digital versions for $4.99. PlayStation 3 owners can upgrade to the Vita version by sticking to the PS3.

Mojang would like to offer discounts to those spinning disc-based versions of Minecraft as well however, since the post notes that that's "proving somewhat more difficult to setup," we'll have to wait for more info to determine if that's a possibility.
